What are the benefits of Touch Therapy?

Many! The therapist's touch causes an immediate reaction in your brain. As soon as your skin's nerve cells feel pressure, they signal the brain to release feel-good chemicals.

Touch is hugely important for humans - it boosts Oxytocin levels, which in turn stimulates the release of other hormones, such as dopamine and serotonin, while reducing stress hormones, such as cortisol and norepinephrine. These neurochemical changes make you feel happier and less stressed. Research suggests that being touched can also lower your heart rate and blood pressure, lessen depression and anxiety, boost your immune system, and even relieve pain.

What if I just want a massage?

Absolutely fine!

I’m a trained Ayurvedic Yoga Massage therapist, and sessions ALWAYS work with solely what the client needs - so if a straightforward massage is your thing, you’ve got it.

What are the benefits of massage and AYM?

Each session is tailored to client needs, but the benefits can be both physiological and neurological.

AYM specifically is said to; reduce muscle tension, ease joint pain, realign body structure, relieve stress and induce relaxation, rebalance nervous system, improved restore and maintains energy levels, improve flexibility, increase mobility and range of movement, support recovery from sports injuries, maintain proprioceptive sensitivity, promote circulation, facilitate restful sleep, treat migraines and headaches through improved circulation, reduce bloating and help digestion, promote mindfulness and improve breathing quality.

What is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage?

AYM is a sequenced massage therapy, created by Kusum Modak in the 1980s. She was hugely influenced by the holisitc bodywork of ‘yoga master’ BKS Iyengar, and her mentor Vasudev Limaye.

Are the sessions okay if I’m pregnant?

Of course. I’ve had some lovely pregnant clients, both before and after baby’s arrival. The hormonal and health changes that you face during pregnancy can be hugely eased by these sessions, just because you’re carrying a little human around doesn’t mean you don’t need some tension relief!

Rather than lying on your back, we’ll do the session either seated comfortably of side-lying, whichever works best for you. In the consultation call we can go over how your pregnancy has been, what changes you’ve experienced, and how we tailor the session accordingly. I always make sure I’ve got plenty of props around to support clients too.

Can I have a session if I’m injured?

Touch Therapy sessions will always support your healing journey, and we don’t always go for ‘deep massage’ - therapeutic is best. If you have a ‘serious injury’ (we will discuss in consultation) get the all-clear from your healthcare professional to have other therapies.
